Study: Piezo Motors in Magnetic Fields
The Research Center Jülich (Forschungszentrum Jülich) has been testing piezo motors in high magnetic fields to determine their influence on the subsequent characterization of the magnets. They tested both commercial rotary stages and an optimized version for nonmagnetic environments. See test results.
#BlackInPhysics Week 2022 essay series
Essayists describe the paths through which they find joy and discuss the challenges that exist in the physics community to attain it.

Webinar
Live Webinar: Innovative Femtosecond Lasers for Multiphoton Applications
With advances in ultrashort pulses in the sub 50 fs regime, fiber-based femtosecond lasers have become a cost-efficient laser source for multiphoton applications. In this webinar we introduce femtosecond fiber laser technology and explore different applications in biomedical imaging, polymerization as well as in-line quality screening via terahertz spectroscopy. Register now.
The joy of connecting quantum black dots
Mark Richards describes how his search for a community of fellow "quantum black dots" led him to found the Blackett Lab Family, the UK's first national network of Black physicists.
Mark Richards
Clearing the path for future Black physicists
Physicist Wesley Sims is looking for joy in new initiatives that combine research and mentorship at HBCUs.
Wesley Sims
CAREERS 2022
Postdoc program brings PhDs into government research
The Research Associateship Programs support 20 federal agencies and more than 1500 research projects.
Madison Brewer
Live Webinar: Interplay Among Morphological, Optical and Electronic Properties in 2D Monolayers
In this webinar, we will show that by collecting light emitted by 2D monolayers within a Scanning Tunnelling Microscope (STM), it is possible to determine the sample morphology (by imaging), sample electronic bandgap and band alignment (by tunnel current spectroscopy, STS), and sample luminescence spectra. Register now.
