Wilson University of Nebraska, USA | | | | | Dr. Mark A. Wilson is a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he also serves as Associate Chair of the department. Over a 25-year career, he has established himself as a leader in biomolecular structural biology and structural dynamics, with extensive experience in national scientific service, academic publishing, and research infrastructure development. At UNL, he led a successful multi-year effort to establish Nebraska's only cryo-electron microscopy center and continues to play a central role in expanding the university's structural biology programs through mentorship and institutional leadership. Dr. Wilson's research focuses on elucidating how protein conformational dynamics drive biological function, with a sustained emphasis on extracting dynamic information from X-ray crystallography. His work has advanced time-resolved and serial crystallography, including early mix-and-inject studies of isocyanide hydratase that resolved key mechanistic questions and revealed catalysis-activated enzyme dynamics, as well as influential contributions to X-ray diffuse scattering and atomic-resolution structural analyses. He has also played a significant leadership role in the field through service as Chair of the LCLS Proposal Review Panel, a decade on the Journal of Biological Chemistry Editorial Board, and participation in major national and international grant and facility review panels. | | |  |
