This Special Topic aims to showcase recent progress in ultrafast opto-spintronics, an emerging field that combines femtosecond optics with spintronic functionalities. The scope includes fundamental studies of light-induced spin dynamics, all-optical switching of magnetization, and ultrafast control of spin and/or orbital polarizations. We welcome contributions on novel material platforms, including magnetic thin films, heterostructures, and nanostructures, as well as advances in experimental techniques such as time-resolved spectroscopy and pump-probe methods. Theoretical modeling of ultrafast spin phenomena is also within scope, when complimented with experimental results. The Special Topic further encourages submissions that explore device concepts leveraging ultrafast optical control of spins, bridging fundamental science with future spintronic and photonic technologies.
